Credit Card Debt – Post-Christmas Story
January 3rd, 2008
The Christmas shopping is over and it is time for many of us to start paying off credit card bills. According to The Associated Press, as of now, credit card debt per household in America is around $2,200. Unfortunately post-Christmas season for some of us will not be as happy as Christmas itself. With default and delinquency rates still rising, comparing to the third quarter of 2007, one may expect credit issuers to tighten their punishments for payment delays. Failure to make your timely payments this time of the year may result in brutal penalties that will put you even deeper in debt and harm your credit history.
If you end up carrying your balance through many months, look up for a credit card with a low intro rate and balance transfer option. Look for transfer fees associated with such transactions. Even if you transfer your balance to a new card with a 0% APR and pay a small initial fee, it may still save you a great deal of money in the long run.
It is a difficult lesson that many of us will have to go through, but we shall not give up. Stopping your payments on your credit card balance is not a quick fix. It is a sure financial death. Please protect your credit standing and it will serve you well in the future.
