Student Credit Cards as a tool to establish credit.

Hello,

We all know about people use to say about evil in credit card for students. How people get themselves in debt early, and so on, and so on.

However, here I wanted to talk about other aspect of it. IMO student credit cards can and are a great tool to establish credit. And that what I wanted to talk here. Any of you have/had a student credit card please share your opinions on this topic.

What people, and media used to say about credit card for college students is in some way true I think. Some campuses nation wide prohibit banks solicit student to apply for credit cards.

Meanwhile, I think that student has to have one-two credit cards early, however parents need to make sure that he/she not just spend it like crazy, but to educate kids on how easy it is to get in trouble early and wait at least 7 year to see improvements. Student credit cards might be the only way to establish credit for a teenager.

If I would start my credit history with student credit card probably I will be in better credit situation now! I did not know how to manage credit cards before and it is not so good right now.

It is a tool, but you have to be careful.
You should try to build it with the help of student credit card, not to put yourself in debt and ruin your credit line.

When I was a student I had couple credi cards. I used it primaraly on books and other student epences.
I'd recommend Citi Platinum Select card for College Student.
First, it is not hard to be approved, second, you will have lot of benefits and not so high APR.

Anything can be Evil if it is used improperly. In many cases it will take just little stupidity to turn a nice thing into something bad. And in case of credit cards it takes even less than that. So, no matter how you call them - credit cards for students, “your first credit card”, etc., a dumb-headed person will mess up their credit with the first chance they’ll have. Sad

For the rest of humanity, credit cards shouldn't be that scary Smile
