Hi, I'm glad you posted this topic.
I have a Question For the past six months, my gaughter held a secured credit card with Bank of America averaging a 30 percent month-to-month balance. She maintained a perfect payment history on the card.
When is it reasonable to request a credit limit increase or to request a standard credit card?

Thanks, Steve

That's what I need to improve my destroyed credit history - secured credit card!
Secured credit card is a good start not only for those who wants to build up a credit history from the begining and also for those who wants to repair damaged credit line! Very Happy

You need to prepare for this move. And I’m not just talking about getting some money first to make a deposit and cover all fees. Secured credit cards are as real as any other credit cards. Gotta work them just like you would a regular card. Pay on time, don’t overdraft, etc. Don’t think it’s a miracle, in its essence it is still far from divine intervention of any kind Smile

What you, and most secured credit cardholders, really want is to graduate from a secured card to a regular credit card.
The secured card is helping you build a credit history. You need a good payment history over a long enough time period before the lender will approve your credit card application.
You also can start with prepaid card!

ACCOUNTNOW PREPAID VISA® CARD

AccountNow Prepaid Visa® Card

Intro APR:
N/A
Reg APR:
N/A
Annual Fee:
$59.4 ($4.95 / Mo.)

Apply for AccountNow Prepaid Visa® Card

How long, do you think, it will take to "graduate" from a secured card to something more decent? Any ideas...

To tell the truth, the period of time between secured credit card and regualr credit card upgrade is almost totally up to you. It doesn't mean that they will approve you to the unsecured credit card at your request, but I mean that you have to build your credit history carefully and keep it clear.
If you make payments on designated time, do not miss them, and pay off you balance every month, chances that you will be upgrade for unsecured credit card sonn are very high.
Banks need to see your credability, they will make sure that you are able to pay off your balances and definately will want you as their regular customer.
Do not rush in!
